Oh, but I should add that IMHO, I cannot imagine this without cascades, but I am sure your beer will be great without it.

I definitely love cascade but am looking to use up these hops. Hoping I don't regret the sub. I can always brew it again with cascades as I have them on hand too.

Well, keep us posted. I love cascades too, but getting burnt out on them. Would love to change it up and keep this grain bill. As I have posted before, I have never had the sweetwater, so can't speak to the accuracy of the clone. So I am not concerned about being true to the original. But it makes a Damn fine pale that I will use a a base for other pales or ipas, so your experiments are of interest to me !

The last time I made this, my second attempt, turned out Awesome! I'm drinking a beer right now, bottled from keg, over 100 days ago and I'm in love. I had a couple sitting around and after having this tonight I'm ready to brew another lighter beer.

Here's my recipe:

Sweetwater part deux

Dingemans aromatic malt
Strong malt lb -20 - .5 oz

Dingemans Pilsen malt
LB 1.2 - .5 oz

Steep 30 mins

6 lb DME extra light

Centennial Type - 1 oz - 60 mins
Cascade - 1.5 oz - 30 mins
Cascade - 1.5 oz - 5 mins

OG 1.055

Safale S-05 gen 2

Kegged 11/29
FG 1.012

ABV 5.7%


I think I'm going to bring it back but all grain this weekend.

Newb here... is this an extract/ steep method? I've been looking around for a good extract + steep for Sweetwater 420. Thanks for any help!

So I made a PM/extract version of this totally off the wall.

But it tastes JUST like 420. Here it is

5lbs Pils DME

10oz Munich
6oz Crystal 20l
8oz Carapils


60 minute boil
1oz magnum

20 minutes left
1oz cascade

10minutes left
1oz cascade

Yeast
wyeast 1028 london ale

Let it sit in the fermenter at about 68 degrees for 3 weeks, kegged it and drank it all gone in about a week O.O

I've really been wanting to make this one as I can't get 420 often down here in Southern CA. I think my girlfriend would kill me if I made another Pale Ale right now though haha *bookmarked*

I made an attempt at this. Sweetwater 420 is my favourite pale ale but i cant get a hold of it in sweden. Tried the coldwater 420 yeaterday and i mustve made some misstakes. First of it was sweet. And secondly the color was off. I get that problem with all my beers. They get this ugly brown color. Why is this?
My OG was 60 and FG was 10 after 17 days primary.

This may be what my next brew day will produce! I love me some 420 and just got some more 2-row. Now I just need the Munich, et al (I have the hops and yeast already) from the LHBS and, BOOM! Tasty brew for me and you... Lol

I got a friend thats in town for 3 months and he loves 420, anyone brew the AG version and how did it turn out?
