Tasting Notes: Upfront grapefruit and tropical fruit, and a hint of pine at the finish

I brewed this on memorial day for serving at my 4th of July party, Which led to the name Freedom APA.

3 gallon boil for the 5 gallon batch

Fermentables

6 lb Dry Malt Extract - Extra Light 82.8%

Steeping Grains
8 oz American - Carapils (Dextrine Malt) 6.9%
8 oz German - CaraHell 6.9%
4 oz American - Caramel / Crystal 40L 3.4%

0.5 oz Chinook Pellet 13 First Wort
0.5 oz Chinook Pellet 13 Boil 20 min
0.5 oz Simcoe Pellet 12.7 Boil 10 min
0.5 oz Citra Pellet 11 Boil 5 min
0.5 oz Amarillo Pellet 8.6 Boil 5 min
0.5 oz Citra Pellet 11 Boil 0 min

Notes
Steep grains in 1.5 gallons of water at 155 for 30 minutes, allow grain bag to drain and discard. Bring the tea to a boil, remove from heat and add half of the DME. Add remaining water to bring your boil volume to 3 gallons and bring your water temp down to 165-175*F, and add your First wort hops. Allow hops to steep at that temp for 45 minutes, bring back to boil and start your 60 minute boil. Add remaining DME at flameout, then zero minute hop additions. Allow hops to steep with no chill for 15 minutes then chill to pitching temp.

Tasting notes:
Pours with a nice white head that persists throughout drinking leaving lacing til the last sip. Grapefruit and tropical fruit on the nose. Tastes of Grapefruit and tropical fruits up front with a smooth bitterness and pine on the finish. Overall this is a well balanced beer, one of my best to date.
