Takes a bit of practice, but you can do that with normal rings too (if you don't mind damaging your jewelery.)

my buddy's wedding ring is titanium and he uses that all the time as a bottle opener. no damage yet.

i'm not willing to get tied down just to be able to open beers by hand.

at least not that kind of tied down.
