Is there a reference online where different brands/types of yeast can be cross referenced?

I guess what I was really asking is what dry yeast can be used in place of liquid yeast? Is there a reference?

I think that usually, as long as the beer style ferments relatively dry and cleanly, then most dry yeast, especially Nottingham, should work excellently. A lot of people now only use liquids for special brews like hefes, belgians, etc. where yeast is essential to flavor production and/or a high ABV/gravity tolerance is needed.

i think you'll find that most dry yeasts are pretty clean and will not provide much to the flavour, as stated above, and compare mostly to the same type of liquid yeast (such as the California Ale Yeast from White Labs)

i personally don't use dry yeast very often.
