Could anyone help me diagnose what this powdery material might be at the top of the funnel separator?
I made a batch of IPA using WY1217 (West Coast IPA) and wanted to start some slants from it. Obviously, I had already brewed and should have started with the original stuff but...
After racking the beer from the primary, and adding about a gallon of cooled, boiled H2O to the primary, I filled this conical funnel separator. After about a week, I had just found some Agar Agar and made my starter tubes. I pulled some of the yeast from the conical and made the slants. About 3 days later, I noticed this powdery material at the top of the conical. And low and behold the same powdery white material showed up in my slants.
Has anyone else seen this and if so, have you an idea what it might be? Is it nothing to worry about or should I take a small dose and skip the flu shot this year ?
