Default help with mead

I’m thinking about making some mead for fun and I plan on going to the store and getting most of the ingredients from there but I thought I should check online to see how much the kits are... I was amazed to see them for $50-$100.. Why are they so much? I was thinking I wouldn’t need to spend much at all to make a small batch of mead (1 gal) but even if I were going to make 5 gallons I wouldn’t think it would be that much.

Anyway. Is there a really good site that has step by step how to make mead? I have yet to find a really good site for that. Thanks

ps. Im actually not looking to make basic mead I want to make melomel.

No, you don't need to spend that much $$$.

Do you already have brewing equipment? Then you are alredy there. You just need some supplies like...honey, some type of acid blend, yeast, a recipe, and fruit.

There are plenty of recipes on the net.
