How afraid of bottle bombs are you? :D

Me, I wouldn't want exploding glass in my hands, so that would dissuade me for sure. Glass isn't designed to hold the psi needed to force carb, even if you could get it exactly right. Plastic probably will, and if not, it's just plastic.
 
Oh, i wouldn't hold it! Build a base, lexan shield, clamp down co2 spigot with rubber sealing gasket, and possibly sit it on a rocker plate.... The tough part will be explaining to my wife, why exactly it's worththe time and basement real-estate.... Champagne and swing top bottles are rated higher then needed pressure to force carbonate... Just don't settle for a cheap gauge. Probably never get around to it and just got plastic for forced carbonation and swing for a more purist home brew....
