Default High gravity beer using dry yeast...do I need to make a starter?

This is my first time using a dry yeast (safale us-05). The OG will be 1.062. Do I need to make a starter?

Nope, you might want to rehydrate per manufacturers instructions. Many just sprinkle on the wort and have good success.

Btw, us05 is a great choice for dry yeast. Very clean and has always attenuated well for me.

1.062, IMO is within the capacity of one pack of dry yeast. I would recommend re-hydrating, though on my last with the same yeast and nearly the same gravity, I sprinkled the yeast on top. It turned out very nice.

I pitched us-05 on a 1.084 batch of milk stout last weekend. Worked just fine.. I did rehydrate though.

For a 5 gallon batch of 1.062 wort he says you need 12 grams. So one 11.5 gram pack will be good enough as long as you rehydrate properly.
