Default Anyone filled a sankey keg with coupler

I was in the home brew store tonight and was looking at a sankey coupler. It looks like you could remove the plastic insert and remove the back flow preventer ball and full the keg through the gas connector. Has anyone actually tired filling them that way?
Had anyone tried

Yes you can do that. You would want to fill thru the beer side, not the gas side. You need to remove the check ball inside the coupler. You can use a pressure release or remove the gas one way valve to let the air out as it's filling.

I use 1/2 kegs for fermenters all the time. They work great!
