I am going to have a friend cut the top and weld a fitting into a keg for me. I have seen pictures of both a coupler and a nipple being welded on. What is preferred? The coupler has the threads on the inside, but requires a bigger hole.

I have 1/2" couplers on mine. I like the idea of having the threads protected, vs. using a nipple.

I like the coupler - more flexibility with threads on the interior and exterior of the keg.

I think it's closer to 7/8" - best to measure.

I vote nipple for compactness and easier to put parts on.

I totally agree...but what if those threads get damaged? You're screwed! No pun intended.....
