I have made a spiced Christmas beer which I used to regularly serve at our own yearly holiday party as well as my mother and father-in-law's Christmas party that was primarily attended by members of their Presbyterian church.

The beer was one of the better ones I could brew and a lot of people at those parties who normally would not drink beer, especially little old ladies for some reason, would try it and say, "this is really good, it doesn't even taste like beer!" which I though was an interesting compliment.

My father-in-law was nice enough to have a mix-n-match 6 pack for me when we stopped over for dinner the other night. He usually drinks wine, but when he drinks beer it's limited to Stella and Yuengling. In there was a bottle of Flying Dog's Raging Bitch. I let him and my brother-in-law try it, and the bitter beer faces were priceless.

My boss told the previous mayor I brew beer. The mayor gets this smirk on his face, "Make anything good??" Before getting irritated, I smirk back and say," Nothing YOU would like." He was the one that ended up feeling offended.

"Is this safe to drink?"

If it weren't, how and why would I be offering it to you to drink?

The response I usually get in the circle that i am around is usually the one of great respect for being the brewer. But then you get the sarcastic comments about how I "make everything" (Sausages, Beer, BBQ sauce, sodas, and just about any food brought to any party)

Explaining to someone that I made hard cider for the party:

"So what did you add to it?"

Yeast?

I think she thought that I spiked it with liquor to make it hard cider.

You have it on CD? Where? My Dad had those songs on Record that we used to listen to every year...

I've had pretty much universally good reactions when I tell people, but who knows. If anything it's just requests for beer which is a fine problem to have.
