Instead of storing in an air locked bottle, it should be in something open. The yeast need oxygen in addition to sugars to populate. A plastic or ceramic bowl w/ a cloth or paper towel on top works well. As for feeding, stir in a 1/4 to 1/2 cup apple juice every 4-6 hrs. That'll really get the culture going and get them used to the apple sugars they'll be living on.
