It was a brewday incident!

Until I decided I want a more sessionable IPA, I first brewed this as an IIPA in February 2012. It was cold out (like -5F) and I was freezing my Wisconsin face off. So I was going to name it "Frozen Face IIPA." Until this happened:

I was taking care of Lexi, my friend's dog, and and I was finishing up the brewday after I pitched the yeast. Lexi was upstairs while I was cleaning my equipment in the basement. After I unhooked the wort chiller from the sink, I set the hose on the floor and a puddle of water formed in the middle of the basement floor. While I was scrubbing out my kettle, I heard the dog yelping like she was injured or hurt. I ran to go "save" Lexi and I slipped on the puddle, landed on my left side and slid about 10 feet towards the staircase. The only thing that stopped my momentum was the first step of the staircase.

As I was writhing in pain, I saw Lexi and my friend standing at the top of the stairs looking down at my painful contortions. Turns out that the dog makes yelping noises (like a normal dog that is hurt would make) when she gets excited. My friend came to pick her up and she was a little overexcited.

I cracked a rib, had abrasions on my abdomen, and a deep cut on my shin from the staircase.

BUT, it was one of the best beers I've ever brewed!

I find that a terrible brew day makes great beer. It's like Karma. Although I can say that besides dipping my bare hand into nearly boiling wort because the line got clogged, I never seriously injured myself.

Holy crap! Near boiling wort? I'm cringing while wondering what the stream of expletives sounded like after you pulled your hand out.
