Awesome water for brewing in the Pac NW. I don't filter. Should I?

I'm wondering whether I should at least get rid of chlorine?

So far (two years into A.G.) I haven't filtered and don't perceive off flavors.

My beers were always hit and miss and never as good as I thought they should be before I started getting rid of chlorine in my brewing water. I used to have all kinds of slight off flavors off and on depending on the time of year and how much chlorine was being added to the city water.

One of the best things I ever did for my beer was worry about chlorine. I currently use a simple RV filter and then add a campden tablet and try to let the water sit out overnight.

If you don't perceive any off flavors I think you're fine. Lots of breweries use tap water

I live on Whidbey Island, WA... and live in the boonies outside of Oak Harbor on the north end. The water here at my place is on a well, and is hard and has some sulpher nasties in it... Bottled water only for me. Unless I brew at my buddies place in Oak Harbor with "city" water... it works just fine for brewing.

On the eastern part of the state, no cloromine, very little chlorine.


been brewing out of the tap for a long time

I get water from the Cedar River watershed.
