Default Successful SCR usage?

Long time reader, first time poster.

I'm getting ready for an eBIAB build, wondering if anyone has successfully used a SCR for temperature control vs a PWM.
Specifically these two
I have seen many references to them, but no follow through to their actual usage. It seems this would be more cost effective vs the SSR + baktronics PWM board. A PID would be my ultimate goal, however to offset the initial cost and create a functioning unit earlier, I'm wondering if the SCR option has been proven in a build.

I got one to use with my drill to reduce speed for milling (works but not the best method!). I have also used it with my BK and it worked great. I have a 4kW SCR running a 2kW element. Reason for trying it was my Sestos PID controller has an error in its code meaning that the duty period can not be less than 8 seconds!

My eBIAB setup uses a phase angle control. Basically a ssr with a potentiometer on the front end. Search for voltage resistance ssr on eBay or amazon. Price is similar to a regular ssr.

Here's one such controller. This is for I think a 2 or 3 kW element hence the crummy plugs/cables. Any more than that and you would definitely want a fan to expel hot air from the box. Don't really know the purpose of the voltmeter.
