Just got an email from Northern Brewer, as most of you have. They sell a set of 3 narrow range hydrometers for $60, link below. Anyone have experience with these or other PRO grade and expensive hydrometers?

Just depends how precise you need (want) to be.

If I'm +/- 1 or 2 points, that's close enough for me...I can't tell 1.059 from 1.061, or 1.014 from 1.015. So for me, no, not worth it. I could brew 3+ batches for $60.

If you watch Austin Homebrew (subscribe to emails), they put these on sale every so often for something like $12 each I think. I would just wait for a deal like that if you're interested - they're really nice tools to have, but non-essential and $60 is a lot.

I look at it this way, how easy is it to break a normal hydrometer and how much will you benifit from owning it.

For me it's a waste of money

Save the money and get a refractometer for wort, use regular hydrometer for beer. Mo equipment = mo problems (except a refractometer)
