Default High gravity yeast starters

Hey guys, i was just wondering if there was a difference between making a starter, crash cooling, then added new work and pitching at high krausen, or doing the same but letting the second step ferment out, crash cool, then just pitching the slurry. I've done both ways and haven't noticed much of a difference. I just wanted to see what some other people have done. Thanks

One difference you'll probably see is in lag time. Pitching at high krausen should cut the lag time way down. As far as taste difference, whether you'd tell the difference would probably depend on the batch particulars. Huge (1 gallon) starter into a 5 gallon light lager is not a good idea, but 2 liter starter into dark ale is probably no big deal at all.

Ultimately, the beers shouldn't taste much different, though the lag time @ high kraeusen will be shorter.
