Hello all, I have just done my third AG batch. After my first batch came out at 74% and my second batch was 72%, I found out that my thermometer was off. After calibrating to an oproximated temp, it would seem that my efficiency has skyrocketed.
9 lbs 6row US
.5 lb Carafoam

After sparging I had a total volume of 6.2 gal and a gravity of 1.050.

Here's how I did it. doughed in 3.75-4 gal 170*F came to 147-150*F
rest for 60 min. vorlouf(or however it's spelled) .25 gal/ or till somewhat clear.
Sparged 1 gal @ 170*F
Sparged 1 gal @ 170*F
Sparged 1.5 gal @ 170*F
Boiled down to 5.2, after filtering 5 gal in fermenter.

I was worried about the absorbtion amount until I tasted the runoff, almost no discernable sugar.

So, moral of the story....If your efficiency is low, check all brewing equipment. Do not settle for around 75%.

Now I guess the next step is to get a 10 gal MT so that I can do multi-decoction brewing. This is one guy in a wheelchair that is making strides in this realm.

Reason: too sarcastic
