Default 2013 HBT BJCP contest?

I noticed in the recipe section, there was a 2009 and 2011 HBT BJCP contest. Any chance this is a every other year tradition and there will be a 2013 contest?

Albert

I don't know. Just wanted to post I'd also be interested in a contest. Maybe if enough people want it, we can make it happen.

I think the organizers got burned out on it during the 2011 competition - a lot of submissions and unlike most competitions, here at HBT you can get in touch with the competition organizers and judges fairly easily and complain if you don't like your results. I would love to participate in a 2013 HBT competition but I think they just got slammed with entries in 2011 and won't be doing it again. They do a yearly secret santa swap though which is a lot of fun for premium/lifetime members!

There is a plethora of competitions, all of which accept mailed in entries. I don't see that an HBT competition offers anything unique. Here is a link to a calendar of competitions http://www.homebrewersassociation.or...ition/calendar

Competitions are great and I encourage everyone to enter - its not just about winning at the competition, but getting the feedback. Also, volunteering at a competition can be a great experience too - as a steward or in some other way. You might even be inspired to get certified as a judge!

I completely understand why there won't be but I think HBT is unique because this place is like my homebrew club. I'm definitely looking into the Christmas swap this year.

Also, I got a light bulb moment. If a bunch of us entered the same competitions, we could let them do all the work and just compare our scores on here. It would be like a side competition to the bjcp competitions.

I like that idea - maybe pick a category or even a sub-category in a given competition and whoever wants could enter. I believe that some group here even did this all with the same recipe? I can't find the thread though.

It never occurred to me that people would complain about the results of something subjective as taste. That would cause me pause to host another as well.

I said "never again" after the last one.

But I am changing my mind.

The thing is, right now I can't make any decisions. I just buried my father about 4 hours ago.
