I have a cream ale in the fermenter using WLP800. I cooled wort to 68, pitched, and set the fermenter in my garage, which stays between 53 and 55 degrees. It's been 3 days and I have seen no activity.
Is this normal? I'm guessing that the lager yeast is going to be a slower start, but how long should I expect to wait before seeing some activity? And how long should I expect the fermentation process to complete?
Probably about four weeks for the primary plus another four to lager out. I tend to let my lager yeasts sit a little on the warm side for the first day or two to let them feed, reproduce and burn up some oxygen before lagering them down to the 50's. The cooler your fermenter is, the longer it'll take to lager.
Lagers require a lot of patience. I'm sure yours is fine, just give it time.
