Default Crud

I am doing a honey ale extract. I did primary fermenation for 10 days and secondary for 8. I added priming sugar by boiling into water before bottling. It has now been bottled for 2 weeks. I hope to refrigerate next week.

I've noticed when I pick up the bottles and turn them upside down a bunch of crud, for lack of a better word, comes down into the beer. What is this? Is it normal? Will it go away?

Well, don't turn them over! That "crud" is the remants of yeast that carbonated the beer. So, next beer, put it in the fridge overnight. And then pour it gently into the glass, and leave the last 1"4" inch of beer which contains the sediment. Then just rinse the bottle out, and turn it upside down for next time!

That's the yeast settling out of the liquid. Quit turning it upside down. 😊 It's perfectly normal for bottle conditioned brews, but you want it to settle out. That way, it stays mostly put in the bottom of the bottle if you pour carefully. Either way, it's just yeast and won't hurt you.

Always happens with bottle conditioning, its the yesties.... Just use a glass if you don't want to drink em' or just give it a swirl when the bottle gets low and drink em up!!! Cheers!

The "crud" is the wonderful yeast eating the priming sugar and carbonating your beer. If you leave your beer in the refrigerator for a couple of week it will compact at the bottom. If you pour carefully and leave a bit of beer at the bottom you should be able to pour a pretty clear beer. I drink it.
