Don't go to Boston Fire Extinguisher in Lynn. The cost for a 5lb was $25 and it was in Lynn ...

mcstout, I'm in Beverly. Where do you end up going? I still need to buy a tank as well.

I ended up going to ARCO welding supply in Malden. For 18 bucks I got a filled 5lb tank and an attitude. Might be hard to go back, but they do have the product and no waiting (almost)

$18?! prices have gone up apparently. Last time I think it was $12

I've gone to both Arco and Igo's.

Igo's never checks to see if the tank is in test. Arco almost always does.

I go to MaineOxy in Milford. They swap out tanks. One thing I like about them is if you want to swap out a 5# tank for a 10# (or 20#) tank they'll give you full credit for the value of the 5# tanks (just pay the difference in price between the two tanks). They also deal in 5# oxygen tanks.

Gorham here too. $10 for a 5lb. You can get a used tank full for $55 I think, good option for a back up.

BeerGrylls,

That was my experience when I went to ARCO as well. If you can get up to Gloucester easily, try Speedway Welding. Call first to confirm, and they'll fill while you wait. $17/5g. Nice folks.

I called Strange Brew in Marlborough yesterday and thought I would report what I found for the betterment of beermanity. Their exchange program requires a "buy in" with the purchase of a full 5lb tank for $130, and then the cost for a swap is always $5 cheaper than the general rate. The current 5 lb exchange rates are $20 if you're in the program and $25 otherwise.

A new, full 5 lb tank is $100 without buying into the exchange program.

I also checked with Homebrew Emporium in Cambridge last week and they were charging $100 for a 5 lb tank, and ~$26 for an exchange. I think it was $26.95, but I can't remember exactly.
