I don't know if there's much difference between the two, but here's a good recipe that uses Brewers Gold. I've made this many times and it's one of my favorites.

Ballantines XXX Ale
OG 1.058

8 lbs 6 row pale malt (2 row works just as well)
2.5 lbs flaked maize
1 lb light munich malt
8 oz crystal malt - 20L
1 oz Cluster hop pellets - 60 min
.75 oz Brewers Gold hop pellets - 30 min
.75 oz Brewers Gold hop pellets - 5 min
1 oz Cascade hop pellets - dry hop / 7 days
1 tsp yeast nutrient - 10 min
1 Whirlfloc tablet - 7 min
US 05 dry yeast

Mash @150F - 75 min
primary ferment @ 65F
dry hop 1 oz Cascade pellets last 7 days

I think that will work although I'm still of the opinion that to maximize the "old time" flavor from the BG hops a longer boil time is better. I'd consider using the BG for the bittering addition in place of the Challengers keeping the other additions as is.
