Thanks for all your feedback, folks. It was just one of those things were I got ahead of myself kegging the beer and wanted to save the yeast as an after thought (I do wash yeast occassionally) but didn't have time that evening. Next time I will be more prepared with preped washing equipment.

If it happens again, I would blow some CO2 in to the bucket and put the lid back on until the next day. The layer of CO2 along with the layer of beer would be fine IMHO.
