Default 2 viles vs. yeast starter

so...not that i've been drinking to much or anything I was just wondering...since i was doing a double IPA tomorrow...if I pitched two viles of white labs cali yeast 001 it would be the same or better than making a 2L starter??? or should i wait and make a starter.....

ps. gonna be brewing in about 14 hours and want to make sure my yeast isnt working to hard {its an importand batch} should i pick up a third vile from the brew shop??? or is that just a waste of money?

Check out MrMalty and it'll tell ya based on ur OG if two vials will be enough

Agreed, Mr Malty will tell you.

But... I'd suggest getting some US-05. Cheaper, higher cell count, and basically the same yeast.

Regardless of how many vials you choose to use, or money to spend for that matter, you should use Mr Malty or Yeastcalc.com to verify the size of starter or cell count you need for the batch. IMO starterss are easy and a lot less expensive than buying multiple packs of yeast.
