Default Do carbon water filters filter out necessary minerals for brewing?

I have been using a GE carbon filter to filter out chlorine from my tap water. Around the same time I have been noticing my brews coming out with a light body and very little head retention. Can this be related? Thanks

No. Poor head retention is either the result of fat, grease or detergent on the glassware or improper handling of the protein rest during mashing.

Thanks. So the filter will not filter out any necessary calcium or sulfates?

If its Chlorine you want to remove -

Instead try 1/2 a Campden tablet. $3 for a bag of 100, means a cost of 1.5 cents for 10 gallons of water de-chlorinated

No, GAC won't effect the mineral content at all.
