Has anyone brewed an ale using only Nugget hops?

How did it turn out?
Opinions?

Contemplating a Pale Ale with only Nugget but I don't remember ever using it before.

I did it once. It was very good. My computer that had my old recipes and notes in it died, so sadly, I can't give you any details about the recipe. Nugget is pretty earthy and herbal, so I think it would be better in an ale that straddled the pale/amber divide.

I am planning an all Nugget Pale Ale ... OG about 1.057 to 1.060 and an IBU of 40 to 50.

Did you ever give it a try?

I did a sorta-SMaSH IPA with 2-row and Nugget/Horizon. It was like 1.067 w/ 80 IBUs; Turned out well, some pine undertones with nice floral/citrus notes. One of the homebrew club guys said if he didn't know better he would have thought it was a single-hop Chinook beer.

It's in the boil right now! I will try to remember to post the results in a few weeks.

Check my recipes section. Have done several including a IIPA and currently drinking a belgian blonde that was all nugget hopped.

Incidentally, you're nearing IPA levels on those IBU's. What was your mash temp? I'd consider dry-hopping as well.

IBU = 35.5%

Missed mash temp a little - shooting for 152 but got 150.

Glad to hear the I didn't just make wet dog ale. See my other post:http://www.homebrewtalk.com/f36/mari...erward-359049/

I just did a MO Nugget Pale Ale and all my friends love it. A buddy of mine whom I hadn't seen in a while handed me over two ounces of his home grown Nugget. I've done IPAs and super hopped-up APAs quite frequently, so I decided to brew something to drink while deciding on the next beer. This recipe knocked my socks off! Slightly malty, slightly nutty/grainy, golden, balanced and super smooth. The Nugget come across as slightly spicy and a tad floral, but subtle in a way that makes you want to reach for another to figure it out. Here's my recipe:

Boil Size: 48.32 l
Post Boil Volume: 44.72 l
Batch Size (fermenter): 41.00 l
Bottling Volume: 41.00 l
Estimated OG: 1.042 SG
Estimated Color: 3.7 SRM
Estimated IBU: 25.3 IBUs
Brewhouse Efficiency: 85.00 %
Est Mash Efficiency: 89.1 %
Boil Time: 60 Minutes

Ingredients:
------------
Amt Name Type # %/IBU
6.00 kg Pale Malt, Maris Otter (3.0 SRM) Grain 1 92.3 %
0.50 kg Carafoam (2.0 SRM) Grain 2 7.7 %
17 g Nugget [13.00 %] - First Wort 60.0 min Hop 3 14.5 IBUs
20 g Nugget [13.00 %] - Boil 15.0 min Hop 4 7.7 IBUs
2.00 tsp Irish Moss (Boil 10.0 mins) Fining 5 -
20 g Nugget [13.00 %] - Boil 5.0 min Hop 6 3.1 IBUs
2.0 pkg Safale American (DCL/Fermentis #US-05) Yeast 7 -

Mash Schedule: Single Infusion, Light Body
Total Grain Weight: 6.50 kg
----------------------------
Name Description Step Temperat Step Time
Mash In Add 16.89 l of water at 76.9 C 66.0 C 60 min
Mash Out Add 11.07 l of water at 97.3 C 77.0 C 10 min

Sparge: Fly sparge with 26.88 l water at 77.0 C

Belated update: It turned out very good and is long gone. It had a very nice flavor. I am no good at describing flavors but this was unlike anything I have had before.

Nugget is one of my favorite hops. It's herbal, floral, but not super earthy like dirt or anything. Very pleasing hop, not real citrusy or biting. I bitter with it all the time now, too, because of it's smoothness, low cohumulone, and high alpha.
