Over a hundred thousand members I think, but I think the core group of contributors is easily under 500. Those of us that use this as a social forum and not just informational. There is literally nobody I can talk beer with around here so I'd feel the loss if it was gone.

I know what you mean. This is a beer forum but I'm not big on exchanging recipes, but do enjoy the DIY projects and general creativity of this community. Like to help out new brewers. But have to admit. Most of my posts and threads are not about beer, more about people who enjoy brewing and being creative in some way or another. This place to me is a good group. I'd miss it too if it weren't here!

Cats get such a bad rap. The last Zymurgy mag even had an article all about brew dogs, with nothing but a few snide remarks for the felines. Such a shame.

I always had cats (Siamese) growing up and they are great pets. Awesome personalities, always around and social, sat by you when you needed some company and would even play fetch in the house. I now have 2 short haired Persians and love having them around. They require way less maintenance than dogs, which is a must for me since I'm a bachelor and travel for business a fair amount. I think the issue with a lot of cats is people don't treat them the same way they do dogs. They get some random cat they don't care about as much and let it run around all over the place outside on its own all of the time. I've always had indoor cats that we got as kittens and raised closely like people do puppies.

My male cat, Jefe, is a tough guy and loves a proper stout. I have to either use glasses he can't fit his fat head into or keep a vigilant eye on my brews or he tries to sneak a sip and comes away with a beard full of foam. Plus I don't have to worry about any critters getting into my precious grain store in the basement.

TwoGunz, I agree with some of what you said. I'm not sure I agree with the point that cats personalities aren't allowed to blossom because they aren't lavished with the attention dogs are. My wife treats her cats like princesses, in fact they have small thrones next to HER side of the bed. This has resulted in cats that are even more self absorbed than what is ordinary.

Cats are fine, and my cats don't give off NASTY farts during a thunderstorm like my yellow lab. Her normal farts are bad enough, but add the stress of "the world is ending!" and it's vomit inducing. Plus the cats have learned to catch and eat a mice. Well, most of the mouse anyway. It's usually the stomach that's left over, but last time I had to pick a head up off the floor. And the last time I found some small feathers and a mouse leg together in the same place. Weird.

Cats may not fart much, but my one long-haired cat gets dingleberries every so often, and he'll mash his arse into the carpet to try to scrub them off. In addition to leaving a disgusting fecal smear on the carpet, it embeds the poop onto his fur, requiring scissors to remove it, and the smell is just as bad as a dog fart.

One of these days, I should really shave his butt.

Our cat likes eating anything plastic and long ribbons. Just yesterday, he evidently ate about 2 feet of blue ribbon. What he didn't throw up, he crapped out in the litter box, except for 6 inches which got stuck to his butt on the way out. He then proceeded to run all around the house trying to get the poo ribbon off.

He also desperately wants to be in the room that you're in and will meow sadly by the door if he can't get in. This also leads to those moments when he gets himself stuck in rooms because he followed you in and you closed the door on the way out without realizing he was in there. An hour later, "Do you hear that? Where's that meowing coming from?"

Ahhh...cats.
