Default Recirc without grant

Do you guys with single tier systems use pumps to recirc straight from the tun, through the pump then back on top of the mash? I have been going into the kettle as a grant, but balancing two flow rates have been difficult to manage. I'm using 1/2" tubing and a March 809 pump. Go without a grant technique?

I recirculate through my RIMS tube and back to the MLT with no grant. You have to constrict the flow with a valve though. You don't want to cause excesive suction. This will cause the grains to compact and pretty much clog the whole shebang.
