Hi all,

I just brewed a pumpkin ale, with 60oz pumpkin in a 5 gallon batch. I used a thief to take wort for a hydrometer reading before pitching the yeast, but the wort was quite thick and viscous, including some cold break and lots of pumpkin. When I floated the hydrometer in the sample, it read 1.07, which is much higher than I expected for gravity. Could the pumpkin in the wort, or even the cold break proteins, be affecting the hydrometer reading at all?
