I tend to put a min of 2 oz in any imperial ipa i make, otherwise it seems more like a scotish ale. But this has such a heavy bitter you got to make sure its bitter!

Ok, I will up the warrior and adjust IBU's based off of that.

Maybe do at boil with 50% of your hops, about 40% near end of boil and dry hop with 10%

I am going to play with it a bit in Beer Tools and see what I come up with.

I haven't. I am going to try to get it done in the next month if I can fit it into my schedule. I will post results and the final recipe once I do.

It reminds me of Dogfish Head Burton Baton. Both are oak-aged, similar ABV and IBU, and close in aroma and taste. If you can't find more info on Big Hoppy Monster, try searching for a clone of Burton Baton.

The unoaked version of BHM was retired a few years ago.

I have not brewed it yet. I have not brewed much of anything lately, although this one is on my "gotta brew soon" list. As soon as I do, I will post results. According to Terrapin, they are discontinuing this beer. If that is true, it makes me sad as this is a fantastic brew.

So I am finally going to make this happen on Feb. 8th. After much consideration, I am going to try to hit Terrapin's numbers, see how it comes out, and then adjust from there. They claim 1.093 OG and 73IBU's. Here is my final recipe:

9.5 lbs pale malt
2 lbs Munich
2 lbs Cyrstal 20
2 lbs Crystal 20
2 lbs Cyrstal 45
2 lbs Crystal 77
.8oz Warrior 60 min
.9oz Centennial 45 min
.5oz Cascade 30 min
.5oz Ahtanum 15 min
1.2oz Simcoe dry hop.

OG-1.093
FG- 1.023
ABV- 9.28%
IBU's- 74.8
SRM- 23
85% efficiency
75% attenuation
6 gallon batch (post boil)

Results to follow! If anyone has any more Big Hoppy Monster they want to send to me for comparative purposes, I would be willing to accept it in the name of science
