I'm looking to make a hoppy orange wheat, but if possible, I would like to derive the orange flavor from hops only. From what I've Googled, it appears my best bets are Amarillo (resembling tangerines and apricots in my personal experience) and Citra. I've also seen references to Styrian Goldings (really?), Ahtanum, which is sometimes criticized for being too perfumey, Sorachi Ace, which I understand more closely resembles lemon, and Summit, which can also unfortunately come across as onion or garlic.

Here is my recipe-in-progress:

Batch Size (fermenter): 5.50 gal
Bottling Volume: 5.50 gal
Estimated OG: 1.048 SG
Estimated Color: 3.5 SRM
Estimated IBU: 30.3 IBUs
Brewhouse Efficiency: 72.00 %
Est Mash Efficiency: 75.3 %
Boil Time: 90 Minutes

That seems like a pretty solid hop schedule for what you are looking for. Kind of similar to a pale ale, except with 50% wheat. Should be good!

I find Centennial is very tangerine-like.

Thanks for the responses. I'll probably switch out the Styrian Goldings for Centennial and add some Summit for finishing and dry hop while crossing my fingers in hopes that I don't end up with carbonated onion soup.

Edit: Oops, I forgot to ask about a protein rest. At 18% flaked wheat, would this recipe benefit from one? Thanks!

I didn't quite get the solo orange characteristic I was aiming for, but this is one spectacular beer: mangos, passionfruit, grapefruit, pineapple, and tangerines. This won't last long and is going to be a house favorite.

Next time you brew this, you may wish to try some Zythos.

That hop blend throws off major orange notes.

I just tapped a batch of wheat pale ale that has the most definitive orange flavor I have ever gotten from hops. Pacifica is the hop that provides the orange flavor. They are worth looking into if you want lots of orange.
