Having lived in the Seattle area (other side of the sound really, but I spent most nights and weekends in Seattle) for 6 years and comparing to a business trip to Portland that lasted 3 weeks, I would have to say that both towns are great examples of Pac NW large cities (although I think there are more homeless scattered around Portland than Seattle, but they aren't bothering everyone or anything, unless you don't like bucket bashing music). As far as the OP, I've never had a bad Rogue beer, although I did try Dad's Little Helper, which is a malt liquor, and tasted like one. If you are going to the Rogue brewery, taste whatever they offer you, find out what you like, and then you can have a list of what you want to buy at the store/bar. There is also NO shortage of bars in Portland, from Irish pubs to holes in the wall, there is a bar for just about anyone there. Also a TON of great Korean places to eat, but I digress. Have fun!

Two things: Portland probably has the lowest consumption of soap per capita in the USA and Rogue Chocolate Stout is a very good beer.

I was in Portland in March and the Brutal IPA was very delicious! I suggest that one, you can't go wrong.

We're leaving for WA today. Great RV road trip. Already stopped at several breweries along the way. Portland is definately most metro of all Oregon cities but also a must stop for beer. Hopworks and Green Dragon. Rogue is played out in my book. Still a good beer.

Portland is the armpit, or some other orifice, of the Northwest... an embarrassment to all who live in the region which is otherwise a paradise of a place... hopefully you get a chance to visit Seattle, Spokane, Eugene, Mt. This seemed anti-Portland but it's obviously sarcasm because they mentioned Spokane as a nice place to visit.

I would disagree with both of those statements!
