That steel plate looks really good. I've been thinking about doing something similar to that all the way around with some kind of trim.

I used aluminum valley flashing,for roofing, and bent it with a brake. Thought about using copper flashing? Thanks for the comments

Great idea reusing the baskets in the extra collar space.
