Forgot to ask, what would be better in the long run, fly sparging with a false bottom or batch with a braid?

That would all depend on what you want to do in the long run?

Many have gotten great efficiency with batch sparging. I myself usually get around 70-76%.

Either will work fine. It depends on what you like. My experience is that batch sparging is faster and takes less equipment. My experience is also that a braid produces clear wort more quickly and easily than a false bottom or manifold. You might want to give it a try.

If I'm using a braid and batch sparging, can I open the valve all the way and just drain it?

What are the pro's to fly sparging?

You still need to vorlauf and I would drain somewhat slowly, but not terribly slowly.

I drain spowly through the vorlauf (maybe 1-2 qt.) then open it up full. It takes me a total of 15 mipn. to collect about 7.5 gal. of runoff. That includes the mash vorlauf and runoff, stirring in the sparge water, and vorlaufing and running off the sparge.

Sounds like most of the issues have been covered, which is why I love this site. In addition to batch sparging next time, make sure to add just the right amount of water during the steps so you aren't diluting your wort. It's an easy mistake to make but correcting it is very easy as well.
