Default Ads on HBT

Who is in charge of the advertising on this site???

i know they need to make money with ads but i just had an ad banner for SOBER COLLEGE???? it is an alcohol rehabilitation site

i am ok with people wanting to be sober after abusing alcohol but i would like to think that the HomeBrew community wouldn't be the best place for this advertising. (or maybe it is?)

what do you think?

You are a premium member. Just turn off the adds and you don't have to look at them.

I think it isn't the most effective use of their advertising dollar, but I also think that's their problem, not ours.

Possibly they view it as part of their mission to reach out to people they think might be high risk.

I like the ads. I get about 25mb/ sec so it doesn't matter anyway. And they pay the bills so the sober ad is just as valid as the free brewing supplies ads. Ads are what make this site work. I know that you premium people may want a pay member only site, but then you won't get new people to join and it would fail in a few months. The internet is meant to be free. Ads make it happen.

I shop at the advertisers and that's my pay back for all of this great info.

The specific ads are all driven by Google. I leave 'em on, they don't bother me at all and I figure if it helps the site's owners earn a penny or two... fine.

And, while the majority of homebrewers I know appear to be responsible drinkers... you've got to figure the odds are strongly in favor of finding alcoholics amongst us that amongst the population at large.

That's a mighty broad brush to be painting with.
