Its fine, even a plastic spoon will work. Just clean it after every use and dont use post boil.

i should only need it during the boil right? after that its all siphons and gravity.
do i need to soak it in star san pre boil? or is the boil going to kill and potential bacteria?

Don't bother sanitizing a wooden spoon. You will not get it sanitized.

Don't use the wooden spoon in your wort after the boil is finished. During the boil, you can stir with your dong - won't hurt the beer.

I agree. I dont think I would use my dong either. I'm not into pain.

For stirring your boil you can use anything that will not impart flavor to the wort (so probably rules out passedpawn's dong). I often use a large metal whisk as it is most effective for getting malt extracts dissolved in.

For a mash, you want a beachwood paddle, or failing that a large beachwood spoon.

I use a big white plastic paddle spoon with holes in the paddle. It came with my kit. It works great and cleans really easy.
