so brewing my first batch, and i think i already messed up. While steeping my grains. the temp climbed to 180 and stayed there for about 15 min. its at about 165ish now for the last 15 min. did i screw my batch up?

Not with steeping grains. You are correct that it was way too hot, but you'll be fine. Temperature control is one of the most important aspects we brewers need to harness. It comes with practice.

no worries. it won't be messed up. if it was all-grain, and you did the entire batch of grain that way, i would say there might be a little off-taste. extract with specialty grains? no effect at all
