Default Wheat Stout

Hey All,

A new home brew shop has opened up locally and he has aspirations to be known as the best store for malts in the area: win for me!!!

Looking through the malts he has on the shelves, I noticed a load of different kilned wheat.

Of course there is regular white wheat as well.

I am contemplating doing an all wheat stout if people either have or have good thoughts on the idea. I just don't know what an all wheat stout might turn out to be like. If it seems like I get good feedback, going to put together a recipe, but what type of stout?

Then, of course, I take it further: what other styles could possibly fit underneath this trial of 100% wheat beer yet to a "style."

Looking forward to some thoughts.

I think an all wheat stout is very ineresting. But maybe thats like a super bold dunkel. A wheat saison maybe?

Northern brewer has a wheat porter you may want to consult for some ingredients.

I was going to suggest the same thing, I've made this kit and it's fantastic. It's called Midnight Beatdown Wheaten Porter, or something like that.

Was the beer 100% wheat? How different was it from a "regular" porter?

I would think the same thing!

The porter isn't 100% wheat, it's a partial mash kit that includes wheat LME and some 2-row in the mash.

If you don't already have a recipe for a wheat stout search around for schwarzweizen and you should come across some. Maybe there's a T in there somewhere. My German isn't very good.

That I do have. I can easily get in the 80s. I have used WLP566 in the past and ramped up to 84F.
