I ordered myself some Christmas presents on cyber Monday, and they arrived today.
I'm breaking in the new cob with some 4th Generation 1897...

Thanks Dan! I'm really enjoying how this cob is smoking. Can't beat the fact that it was only a $3 pipe. The 4th Generation is very tasty in it.

Cheers brother!

You can't beat a pipe for making you stop, take some time out of your busy day, reflect and relax. Despite the obvious negative health aspects, smoking a pipe must be good for your mental health. I only get mine out on special occasions now though.

I agree with you completely. Smoking a pipe is not similar to smoking a cigarette. A pipe takes patience and care. Somebody wrote about pipe vs cigar vs cigarette smoking. Pretty sure I posted that here but it is worth posting again. I just have to look it up.

I couldn't find the poem I was looking for but did find this.

A glass is good, and a lass is good,
And a pipe to smoke in cold weather;
The world is good, and the people are good,
And we're all good fellows together.

Meh?

I like it!

I remember you posting the other poem as well, but I don't remember how it went.

Dan, you inspired me to look up poems about pipe smoking. I ran across this, and I really liked it..

"I Smoke My Pipe"

I can't extend to every friend
In need a helping hand--
No matter though I wish it so,
'Tis not as Fortune planned;
But haply may I fancy they
Are men of different stripe
Than others think who hint and wink,--
And so--I smoke my pipe!

A golden coal to crown the bowl--
My pipe and I alone,--
I sit and muse with idler views
Perchance than I should own:--
It might be worse to own the purse
Whose glutted bowels gripe
In little qualms of stinted alms;
And so I smoke my pipe.

And if inclined to moor my mind
And cast the anchor Hope,
A puff of breath will put to death
The morbid misanthrope
That lurks inside--as errors hide
In standing forms of type
To mar at birth some line of worth;
And so I smoke my pipe.

The subtle stings misfortune flings
Can give me little pain
When my narcotic spell has wrought
This quiet in my brain:
When I can waste the past in taste
So luscious and so ripe
That like an elf I hug myself;
And so I smoke my pipe.

And wrapped in shrouds of drifting clouds,
I watch the phantom's flight,
Till alien eyes from Paradise
Smile on me as I write:
And I forgive the wrongs that live,
As lightly as I wipe
Away the tear that rises here;
And so I smoke my pipe.

Not much action here lately. I took a break from cigars the last two days to enjoy a pipe and it's been a nice change of pace. There is a much different approach between the two. I notice with cigars I am always looking forward to the next change of flavor transition really paying attention to subtle nuances. With a pipe I pick up my favorite blend, pack, strike a match and then sit back and think. The occasional tamp and it's pure relaxation. Good times.
SPC Mississippi River with my favorite Poker pipe.
