Have a single tier, 2 pump setup - just got a RIMS tube in from Brewer's hardware and am looking at putting together these to get it working. Comfortable enough around the electric work and recognize the dangers - just looking for feedback on if the sizing for these is sufficient/will work:

Planning on running off of a 20A 120VAC circuit -

This controller

cycling this SSR
http://www.auberins.com/index.php?ma...&products_id=9

to run this heater (or one with similar/identical specs)
http://bostonheatingsupply.com/sp10869ml.aspx

Planning on using these to switch the pumps on/off:
http://www.auberins.com/index.php?ma...roducts_id=236

and was leaning towards using the switches to switch outlets internal to the box vs. stripping the plug on the pump and hard wiring...

Any feedback (inc. "you're an idiot - start over") would be appreciated.

Cheers!

Your an idiot. Start over. Im kidding, but I do recommend going gas powered. Besides the added fun of playing with fire, the equipment is simpler and easier to use and clean.

Should have probably included the entire setup. The details above would only be for maintaining temp in the mash and supporting steps. Each tank (HLT, MT, and kettle) has a burner.

What would you need a RIMS tube for if you a direct fired mash tun?

probably for more effective control of temp without stirring/risk of scorching

What Frogger said, the last several batches I've had pretty big swings in my mash temp over short periods of time (5-6 deg drop over 10min). I'll turn on the burner as low as I can get it but it ends up pushing the temp out on the upper side.

I have a Auber SYL-2352 with the "Fuzzy Logic" and ran a 40 AMP SSR just to be safe. Also don't forget your heat sink. My RIMS system runs on 20 AMP 120V as well and runs a pump and the heating element with no problems at all. Good luck with the build.

Are you recirculating while direct firing?

Yes, I was recirculating. Granted it was a 5g batch of a low ABV beer in a full keggle so thermal mass wasn't high (7-8# of grain total) and ambient temp was near freezing.
