Hi all....I have a chest freezer that I use for fermenting/lagering that I control with a Ronco controller. I have noticed that the freezer is getting frost/ice build up at the point where the probe's wire goes between the lid and base gasket. Can I drill a hole through which I can run the probe and wire through to avoid this problem and if I can is there anything I need to be careful about (ie. refrigerant lines, electrical connection)?

Do not drill through the side of the chest freezer, that's where the cooling lines are. There might be ways to see where the lines are, but that's a big gamble. If you hit one of those lines your chest freezer is toast.

The lid on the other hand is fine to drill through. This is also why people often put a collar on a chest freezer.

You can, but it's not recommended to drill a freezer wall. Some good info in this thread:

Building a collar seems to be the preferred way--search here for "keezer collar"
