- the best ipa i\'ve ever brewed and the first recipe i\'ll brew again
i had some ingredients around the house and hadn't brewed in a couple years just before the birth of our second child. i decided it had been long enough and i brewed this with stuff i had on hand and it turned out far better than i expected.
i steeped the crushed grains for 45 minutes at 160 degrees.....
.5 lbs crystal 10
.35 lbs biscuit
.25 lbs caramunich iii
extract.....
6 lbs dry extra light
1.75 lbs dry light
hops (all pellet).....
.75 oz amarillo @ 60
.25 oz centennial @ 60
.75 oz simcoe @ 60
.75 oz amarillo @ 10
.75 oz simcoe @ 10
.5 oz amarillo @ 0
.75 oz centennial @ 0
.5 oz simcoe @ 0
dry hops (added after one week in primary).....
1 oz amarillo
1 oz simcoe
yeasts.....
1 package of safale us-05 (dry)
1 package of wyeast 1388 (belgian strong ale propogator) (i did not make a starter)
i fermented the beer at 65 degrees.
i bottled the beer on the 14th day.
this beer just really turned out spectacular. nice balance, but with an awesome hop kick and a wonderful nose.
if you are a hophead, this recipe will not disappoint you.
