Im a noob. I was wondering if there is any good free software out there for me to play with. I will end up purchasing beer smith eventually, but the SWMBO has put me on lockdown because of the monies I have used for the best hobby known to man.

I just want to use it to cut extract recipes in half for now.

Check out the "Software available" sticky thread at the top of this forum.

For an online tool, Hopville is very nice. For a local app, take a look at Brewtarget. It's open source, works well and is compatible with BeerSmith as it implements BeerXML.
