I am brewing an English southern brown ale and I'm considering adding some oats to give a more "silky" mouth feel.

Can I pull this off with plain Quaker oats and would as little as 1-2% of the grist be noticeable? Obviously I dont want to over due it after all it's a brown ale not an oatmeal stout.

Are the oats instant? It seems that you could add up to 10%. The flavor might be noticeable in high amounts but I believe 1-5% would not be very noticeable. There are some other examples here:
