Default Plate filter?

Anyone use a plate filter? What does it do? Is it worth it?

I've never used a filter or had the urge to use one, they are expensive and i think require kegging equipment to use. There other options to clear your beer by using finnings, cold crashing, and long primaries. In my opinion its not worth it for a homebrewer.

I'm not to particular with the clarity of my beers so I just used irish moss. It works pretty well, the beers turn out clear but not crystal clear like you would find in commercial beer.

I found one for $25 on Craigslist. Worth it?
