Well the yeast won't eat the strawberries, and you'll be left with a bunch of chunks of white scary looking fruit in the bottom of each bottle.
You can prime with just about anything fermentable, it's just breaking them down into a way that will provide the sugars to the yeast and not be unpalatable for the drinker.
All sorts of things can be used, including hard candy that has been dissolved into a liquid form, fruit juice, syrups, odd sugars.
