I had the same thing happen to a red, it was my second brew and you know what I forgot to do?

When I topped it off to make it 5 gal, I forgot to shake it up. So I was taking readings out of the water I topped off with, instead of the mixture. Which gave me a super low reading. I mixed it up and got a better reading. But like the guys are saying here, its no big deal. Just let it ride.

UNtill you get to pm or ag as long as you have the post boil volume and no boil over you ar all good..
On tap: World wide lager, Dopelbock, Apfelwein, American Wheat, DFH 90, Dortmunder export, Skeeterpee, Chinook/Citra ipa.
Waiting on a tap. Maibock, Two Hearted, Pliny the elder, Chimay White, Roggenbrier, DFH60
On Deck:
Hiding in dark corner: Lambic, Flanders red, Oud Bruin, DFH 120(in bottles)

Thanks for all the help everyone!!! I just flipped my lid when I came in so low. Had I thought it out rationally then I see exactly what you guys are saying. I read and re read the directions probably 12 times before I put up my post. And of course th directions do not say shake the hell out of it then take your OG measurement. Thanks again guys, this forum has been a life saver
