Default Epoxies for potting?

Have gallons of epoxy in my shop, used for boats and woodworking projects. I was wondering if that might work to pot a heating element. I see that most use JB Weld. Would epoxy work?

I would think so. JB Weld is epoxy, no?

Yeah, JB weld is just a type of epoxy. I just used a 5-min quickset one. Worked great.

You have to check the epoxy to make sure it can handle the heat as well as it not being a conductor. I use this one MG Epoxy Encapsulating & Potting, High Temp - MG-832HT-375ML

I checked with Raka Epoxy, my supplier for the boat stuff. They said that they have not tested the product for electrical potting
And said that it will soften at temps over 125*. I guess I'll use JB Weld. I'm getting anxious to get my set up hot, and JB is just down the road.

Next time you're ordering from McMaster, go for the real thing for $20.

Go with the short nozzles, they waste less epoxy when you're done.
