Sorry, I didn't use my words very well when I asked that. I'm just looking for the threads of the coupling to be accessible on the inside so something could be screwed into them. Be it a hop screen or pickup for a false bottom. Flat is cool as long as the inside opening isn't smaller than the inner diameter of the coupling. I'm assuming they drill hole just large enough to fit the coupling, then only insert it enough to clear the inside of the kettle wall.
